Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang becomes Arsenal’s record signing
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has completed his move from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal for a club record fee.
The transfer fee is reported to be worth £56million, which eclipses the £46.5m paid to Lyon in July 2017 to sign Alexandre Lacazette.
Aubameyang’s weekly salary is likely to exceed the £170,000-a-week agreed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan when he joined the Gunners as part of the swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez join Manchester United last week.
Arsenal have announced that Aubameyang has signed “a long-term contract” with the club.
Aubameyang scored 141 goals in 213 games for Dortmund since 2013, including 21 in 24 matches this season.
The forward joined Dortmund from French club Saint-Etienne in 2013.
In his time at Dortmund the only major trophy he won was the German Cup in 2017.
He was named Bundesliga player of the year in 2016, and last season was the German top flight’s most prolific scorer with 31 goals.
He has played 56 times for Gabon, scoring 23 goals.
Aubameyang played for Dortmund in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Freiburg – his first start for the German club since 16 December 2017.
Dortmund have agreed a loan deal for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi and news is still awaited on whether the Blues will in turn be taking Olivier Giroud to Stamford Bridge.
