Arsenal Ladies confirm signing of Chioma Ubogagu from Stanford University
Arsenal Ladies manager Pedro Losa has continued his pre-season recruitment drive with the signing of forward Chioma Ubogagu from Stanford University in the United States.
Losa said of the new signing on Arsenal.com: “Chioma is a player I have known about from my time coaching in the United States and she is a fantastic talent. She is very creative, and is able to make goals as well as score them. I think that she will fit in very well with us.”
Chioma made 89 appearances during her four years at Stanford, scoring 27 goals and finishing fourth in the all-time Stanford assist list with 37. She captained the side in her final year.
A United States youth international, Chioma helped her country to victory in the 2012 Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.
Raised in Texas but born in London, Ubogagu is a lifelong Arsenal supporter and her grandfather represented Nigeria as a player.
Losa has had a busy pre-season also signing Lianne Sanderson, Jemma Rose and Spanish internationals – Natalia Pablos and Vicky Losada.
Arsenal Ladies started their preparations for the 2015 FA Women’s Super League (FAWSL) with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa Ladies in their opening pre-season match.
The Gunners begin their FAWSL campaign away at Notts County on 2 April 2015.
