Arsene Wenger reflects on the Champions League win over Ludogorets
Arsene Wenger spoke to the media after Arsenal’s 6-0 win over Ludogorets in Group of the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium this evening.
The victory puts the Gunners ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the Group A table on goal difference. Both clubs have seven points from their opening three fixtures.
The French champions beat Basel 3-0 at the Parc des Princes this evening.
Arsenal play Ludogorets in the return fixture in Sofia on Tuesday 1st November. They then take on Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday 23rd November, before completing their group stage campaign with a trip to Switzerland to take on Basel on Tuesday 6 December.
The results tonight keep Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain locked in a race for top spot in the group.
Their clash at the Emirates seems to be set to decide who will finish top of the group. Arsenal though won’t want to slip up in either of their remaining two away fixtures to Ludogorets or Basel.
The Gunners will be keen to secure top spot and a potentially easier last 16 tie.
Between the return fixture with Ludogorets and facing Pais Saint-Germain, the Gunners face massive Premier League matches at home to Tottenham Hotspur (Sunday 6th November) and away to Manchester United (Saturday 19th November). Before the trip to Basel they face a tricky away Premier League fixture with West Ham United (Saturday 3rd December).
“Our confidence is stronger with every win but we have to keep the vigilance and the urgency to bring that into the next game, Wenger said after tonight’s win.
“Let’s not be too quick on the verdict. We have a strong squad and a strong spirit, but you have to take care of it and keep your feet on the ground. The only way to win something big is to focus on the next one and work on humility.
“I feel that at the moment because we win game after game our confidence is high. Maybe we get over dodgy periods with less psychological damage.
“In the first half, it looked like a difficult game because they were dangerous going forward, they had good technique in short space, they are quick on the counter attack.
“I believe it was not easy but in the second half we took complete control of the game. I think we could have scored more.”

We took complete control of the game in the second half and we could’ve score more because they had given a lot in the first half. They suffered a little bit physically in the second half.”
“We go to Ludogorets in two weeks and they will want to show us they are better than 6-0, but if we win there it would come down to the game against PSG.”
