Arsene Wenger makes FA Cup history and heaps praise on the players
Arsene Wenger became the first post-war manager to lift the FA Cup trophy six times as Arsenal trounced Aston Villa 4-0 at Wembley yesterday.
It was a record 12th win in the competition for the Gunners.
“I am very happy, very proud and absolutely thrilled because we won the FA Cup but the performance was there as well,” he told Arsenal Player.
“The quality of the performance was outstanding today and it was a good advert for the FA Cup because we played in a very convincing way. I cannot fault one player – everyone was absolutely outstanding.
“We started strong, stayed strong and finished strong. That is what you ideally want but you do not always get it, but today we got it.
“I think it shows as well that this team has moved forward since the beginning of last season. We are now a much more mature team, who knows its way and plays as well fantastic football.”
Wenger remained tight-lipped on potential summer signings for the Gunners.
“I am not in a buying mood tonight. I will buy drinks for my players.” Wenger said
On his own future Wenger added:
“I have two more years of my contract and my hunger is great. I want to do well.
“Our club is doing well and if I can personally do well then it’s even better.
“We have shown that we are a real team and can deal with pressure. I congratulate the players, the staff and the fans. We are so happy tonight.”
