Arsene says this “difficult period” is not the time for the youngsters to start matches
Arsene Wenger admits the “difficult period” Arsenal are going through has prevented him from calling on youngsters like Serge Gnabry.
German youth international Gnabry, 18, featured prominently for Arsenal in January but has made just two substitute appearances since then, his last coming in the 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich earlier this month.
Some Gunners fans have called on Wenger to thrust Gnabry back into action, but the pacy winger was an unused substitute once again in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Swansea.
“When you go through a difficult period like that, you need a bit of experience,” Wenger explained.
“To put young players under massive pressure at the moment like we are… It is easier said than done.
“At the moment, I feel that the experienced players did very well and we need that as well in a situation like that.”
With the pressure mounting on Wenger and his men, Gnabry’s peripheral role is likely to continue as Arsenal bid to get their season back on track over the next few weeks.
What do you think. Should Arsene have more faith in his younger players
