Mustafi completes move to Arsenal

Arsenal have completed the signing of Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia. The 24-year-old German centre back has signed a five-year contract for a fee in the region of £35m.

Mustafi had been with Valencia for two seasons, making 64 league appearances. He began his senior career after coming through the Everton academy before spending two years with Sampdoria in Serie A.

Arsène Wenger said of Mustafi: “He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”

The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

As Mustafi joins the Gunners, Calum Chambers has joined Middlesbrough on loan for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.

Chambers had a medical on Teesside earlier today. He has made 59 appearances for Arsenal. The last of which was in the opening Premier League fixture of the season against Liverpool. Although he scored in that match, the Gunners were beaten 4-3.

Since then Laurent Koscielny and new signing from Bolton Wanderers Rob Holding have been preferred as the centre-back pairing.
