Arsenal in talks to sign the “new Messi” Maximiliano Romero
Arsenal are close to signing Argentine wonderkid Maximiliano Romero, according to the Sun.
The 16-year-old, dubbed the new Lionel Messi, currently plays at Velez Sarsfield and negotiations between the two clubs are reported to be underway.
The player’s agent Rolande Zarate said “I met with Arsene Wenger twice in London. They heard about Maxi through their South American scouts. He is the player who has most impressed them.
“Maxi has huge potential but he is going to complete his apprenticeship at a great club like Velez”.
Romero has just celebrated his 16th birthday, has yet to make his top-flight debut in Argentina, but has a number of European clubs interested in him.
He was born on 9th January 1999, is a centre-forward and a massive Falcao fan, according to Marca.
Despite not yet making his competitive top flight debut at Vélez Sarsfield, Romero completed pre-season training with the first team in January, and even scored a couple of goals in friendlies.
Maxi’s reputation stems mainly from his performances for Vélez’s youth academy.
It’s reported that Arsenal would have to pay £4.5million to secure Romero’s services, with the player staying with Velez until 2017 before completing the switch to join up with the Gunners.
