Arsenal Ladies survive ‘ghost’ penalty to beat Birmingham 2-1
Arsenal Ladies took all three points in their FA Women’s Super League match with Birmingham City today, winning 2-1 in controversial circumstances.
Goals from Casey Stoney and Freda Ayisi put the Gunners 2-0 up, with Karen Carney pulling a goal back in injury time from the penalty spot for Birmingham.
However the game will be dominated by another penalty incident after referee Amy Fearn first awarded Birmingham a penalty, before changing his mind on the advice of her linesman and awarding a corner instead.
So an important three points for the ever improving Ladies, who now have an outside chance of securing a Champions League spot by securing a top two league position.
