Arsenal well beaten at the Bird’s Nest

Arsenal were beaten 3-0 by Premier League Champions Chelsea at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing.

The match ends the Gunners’ pre-season tour of China and Australia.

Arsene Wenger once again gave youngsters Ainsley-Maitland Niles and Cohen Bramall a start in a makeshift defence.

Maitland-Niles started on the right side of a back three and Bramall at left-wing back.

Chelsea started on the front foot and always looked the more threatening side.

Arsenal were grateful to David Ospina to stay on level terms.

The Colombian was forced into making  saves from Willian and Batshuayi.

Chelsea made the breakthrough in the 40th minute Willian’s curling effort evaded Ospina’s dive to find the net via the far post

The Blues doubled their lead 90 seconds later when Kante robbed Bramall. He then set up Batshuayi, whose left foot shot beat Ospina.

Arsenal had to wait until the stroke of half-time to get their first shot on target.

Aaron Ramsey was denied by a good save from Courtois after a powerful shot from a tight angle.

Arsene Wenger made a raft of changes at the start of the second half.

But it was Chelsea who struck again in the 49th minute. Batshuayi scoring his second, with a powerful curling shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Arsenal carried little goal threat in the second half.

The closest they came to scoring was a Donyell Malen shot that struck the outside of the post.

The bright spots were promising substitute cameo appearances from Reiss Nelson, Malen and Joe Willock.

Arsenal continue their pre-season preparations with match matches against Benfica and Sevilla in the Emirates Cup next weekend.
