Arsenal beat 10 man Newcastle United 1-0 in the Premier League at St James’s Park this afternoon.

Fabricio Coloccini deflected a shot from Alex Oxlade Chamberlain into his own net in the 52nd minute to give the Gunners all three points.

Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off for Newcastle in the 16th minute for an over the top challenge on Francis Coquelin.

In addition to the sending off, Newcastle had six players booked in a bad-tempered clash.

Arsenal were unlucky not to have been awarded a first half penalty when Hector Bellerin had his ankle clipped, but Andre Marriner missed the foul.

Newcastle failed to register a single shot on target in the entire contest.

The win continues Arsenal’s record of having not lost at St James’ Park in the league since December 2005 and have now won their last eight games against Newcastle, scoring 21 goals and conceding just six.
