Alexandre Lacazette becomes Arsenal’s record signing
Alexandre Lacazette has completed his move to Arsenal from Lyon.
The Frenchman completed his medical at London Colney yesterday after the clubs agreed a fee, and he had agreed personal terms with Arsenal.
The Gunners are believed to have agreed a club-record deal of £46.5m with Lyon, which could rise to £52m with add-ons.
Arsenal’s previous record fee was the £42.5m they paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013.
It’s reported that Lacazette has signed a five-year deal and will be paid £200k a week.
Lacazette, who has 11 caps for France, had agreed verbally to join Atletico Madrid earlier this year prior to their transfer ban being upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
He broke into Lyon’s first team during the 2009-10 season after a successful time in their youth setup and has since scored 129 goals in 275 matches in all competitions.
A converted wide-player last season was Lacazette’s most prolific as a central striker he found the net 28 times in Ligue 1, a tally bettered only by Paris St-Germain’s Edinson Cavani, with 35.
Lacazette is Arsenal’s second summer signing following the arrival of left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke.
The future of a number of players has still to be resolved. This includes Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere, all of whom are out of contract in a year’s time.
Whilst the arrival of Lacazette casts doubts over the future of Olivier Giroud, Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott.
Giroud is being linked to Everton, West Ham United and Marseille, and Perez with a move back to Spain.
